On the occasion of the IV Centenary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, CEBE in collaboration with the Institute Cervantes and the Embassy of Spain in Belgium organize a talk on 'Science in Don Quixote and in its time' at the Institute Cervantes in Brussels, the Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m. With this event we want to homage to Cervantes' masterpiece combining science and literature.

The talk will give by the writer and professor Manuel Alfonseca. Manuel has a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering and a degree in Computer Science, as well as the author of numerous books on scientific dissemination and a historical novel, science fiction, children and youth. Manuel has been a professor at the Complutense, Polytechnic and Autonomous Universities of Madrid, combining throughout his career his passion for science and literature.

Cervantes was a contemporary of scientists as famous as Galileo, Kepler or Tycho Brahe. When diving into the pages of Don Quixote, you will find numerous references that provide an insight into the science of this time, a science that took the first steps towards a new methodology and that would take us to the most scientifically productive centuries that recalls history. Manuel Alfonseca will talk especially about the references that Don Quixote offers about the experimental sciences (astronomy, alchemy and biology) and the technology of his time.
