Review - Quantum computers
Not every day we host scientists awarded with a "Príncipe de Asturias". On this occasion of our "Spanish Influencers" series of events; we had the honor of recieving Juan Ignacio Cirac, director of the Theory division, at the Max Planck Quantum Optics Institute in Germany.
The director of the Cervantes Institute, where we met this time, introduced the event to the public, about 100 people, presenting both Juan Ignacio Cirac and Serge Massar, professor at the ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles). Serge made a brief introduction to the topic of quantum mechanics to give way to Juan Ignacio, who developed the central theme of the event: quantum computers, explaining the theory, he talked about quantum superposition, how quantum computers could be built and challenges that pose, such as isolation, error correction etc.
At the end, the public was able to clarify part of their doubts, in a question session in which the speakers could explain in more detail some parts of their presentation. During the subsequent reception, both Juan Ignacio and Serge talked quietly with the attendees until the end of the event.
